Soccer, also known as football in most countries, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net, which is guarded by a goalkeeper. Soccer is typically played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with goals at each end. The sport is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB).
Players primarily use their feet to control and kick the ball, but other parts of the body, except the arms and hands, can also be used, with the exception of the goalkeeper who can handle the ball within their penalty area. Soccer matches are divided into two halves, usually lasting 45 minutes each, along with possible injury time.
