Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop, which is elevated 10 feet above the ground. The game is played on a rectangular court with a hoop at each end. Points are scored through field goals (making a shot from anywhere on the court) and free throws (shooting from a designated line after certain fouls). The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. Basketball emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and athleticism, with skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending being essential. It is governed by specific rules and regulations that dictate how the game is played, including time limits, fouls, and violations. Created by Dr. James Naismith in 1891, basketball has grown into a major global sport, enjoyed at both amateur and professional levels.
